WEBP image format is fast becoming a thing all over the WEB. It’s much lighter bitwise than JPG and comparable or better in quality. It might help you guys save a lot of bandwidth and server space.
Are you planning to support this format in your upcoming mega update?
I’ve added .webp to the list of approved images; this applies to avatars, as well as chatrooms that are set up to allow users to upload “images only”. Seems to work nicely.
I’m now using a WEBP myself – although it looks like our forum software converts it to a PNG, likely for compatibility with very old browsers, like our recently departed IE… But if anyone ever shoots me a DM in the chat, they’ll receive a response from my WEBP’d face.
