The “Listening” status was released in February, which automatically places headphones if you listen to the chat radio. I think a status for who is actively controlling the radio is better than a rank shape that everyone has to buy individually.
A few questions I’d like to pose to the community first:
-
What should it be called? Thanks to my time volunteering at a radio station, I know that “On-Air” is only for when the mic is hot, not when the music is being played. So On-Air wouldn’t fit if you’re not actively speaking, unless we want to break tradition (not a fan of that)… Is “DJing” good enough?
-
Who should be allowed to set it? Should the owner of the chat designate someone (including themself) as the one currently on-air? Or should there be a setting for “Who can set [DJing] status?” in the chat settings, and you can set it to “mods and up” / “owners only” etc, and trust they’ll behave?
-
What symbol should it be? Microphone? Vinyl?
There’s also the possibility I need to make two new statuses; one for On-Air with a microphone, and one for DJing with a vinyl, since some chatrooms are more music-focused, while others are more talk-radio.
