Security and login issues

Recently, I’ve had to deal with some users who’s Minnit account was hacked. They asked me to remove their old accounts so they could create new ones with same e-mail but different pseudo and credentials. NO CAN DO! Your database holds on to mail addys forever and refuses to allow new accounts on people’s genuine addys that have been used before. This forces users to create bogus addys or new legit ones which become a nightmare to manage for basic users; they can barely remember the password for 1, imagine 2 or 3…
I understand that MInnit chats are interconnected and totally removing one user from any specific chat would also remove them from other chats they may be subscribing to.
But, isn’t that the point; if a user needs to create a new account because of forgotten, irretrievable passwords or security issues it would be good that their credentials be changed on all of their chats in one fell swoop… Most other chats apps store user credentials locally and accounts with same addy can be created on individual chats with same or different credentials with no issues on other chats.

Kudos and thanks again for your great work here;

The issues you’re describing are present with classic Minnit chats (https://minnit.chat/YourChatNameHere), since you aren’t able to edit account details for your users as the owner.

For Organizations, you have full access to manage accounts within the Organization, and user accounts are specific to each Organization. This is helpful since you can easily edit user account details as needed.

If you do decide to convert to an Organization, all of your users will need to register for a new account.

If you’d like to convert to an Organization, you can contact support and we can handle this for you.

Please note that your users will need to register for a new account if you choose to move to an Organization.

If you’d like to stick to a classic chat, you can always ask your users to contact support if they lose access to their account. They’ll just need to answer a few security questions for us to verify that they own the account, and we’ll be able to help them regain access to it.
